Who doesn’t love a posh cocktail, especially when it doesn’t break the bank? This time, instead of going to Dunnes, I went to Lidl, and I was not disappointed! I found some wicked deals: Hampstead London Dry Gin, Elderflower Sparkling Water, Granulated Sugar, and 5 Pears. In total, I spent €16.04!

So with all the materials, I was planning on making a Pear Simple Syrup to sweeten the drink up, and the fact that I found elderflower sparkling water made the drink that much better.
Pear Simple Syrup:

*It is important to make the simple syrup in advance, so it has time to cool and chill* To make the Pear Simple Syrup, I peeled all the pears and diced them. I saved the peels to use as garnish (just put them in a ziplock bag and threw them in the fridge). After dicing the pears, I put them in a medium-sized saucepan, and then I poured water so that half of the pears were covered by it. Then I added about a quarter cup of sugar. One can always add more if you want a sweeter simple syrup, however, the pears are so sweet by themselves. Once the water came to a boil, I took a potato masher to the pears to make sure the syrup had the maximum amount of flavor. Then, I used a strainer to put the liquid into a jar, let it cool, and then put it in the fridge so it was chilled for when the cocktails were ready to be made.
Putting it all together—Making the Cocktail:
Now once it came to make the cocktails, I put one and a half shots of gin (but you can vary this amount, if you want it stronger, pour with a heavier hand, if you want it a bit weaker, pour a little less). Then I put one shot of simple syrup and poured in the sparkling water, so the glass was full. I then added a straw and some of the pear peals as garnish. I didn’t have ice, but I would recommend adding some so the drink stays cool.

Overall, the cocktails were a success! My friends said they would pay up to €10 for one cocktail. You’ll wow your guests with this amazing drink!
